Let's read up a bit abOut DOgathON™
All around the world, dogs serve not only as companion pets but also perform jobs like service and assistant work, therapy work, search and rescue, as well as herding. The phrase, "Dogs are a man's best friend", is popularised in both movies and real life. Realising this fact, Dogathon™ is an annual event organised by both the lecturers and students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Putra Malaysia as an event to allow dog owners and dog lovers to mingle and spend time with their furry friends.
Over the years, the population of strays especially cats and dogs have risen, resulting in welfare and health issues for both animals and humans. Therefore, another important goal of Dogathon™ is to educate and create awareness among the public to improve the welfare of these stray animals. The first ever Dogathon™ was started 17 years ago. Dogathon™ is also the proud holder of two Malaysia Book of Records for the Largest Dog Gathering in Malaysia. In 2010, Dogathon™ had a total of 1111 dogs present but in 2014 we broke the previous record of having 1216 dogs!
Other than that, Dogathon™ is an event organised to create awareness on responsible pet ownership as well as to strengthen the bond between owners and dogs through fun-filled games and activities during the event! All proceeds from this event are meant for the Projek Pengkasian Haiwan Terbiar (PRO-KASIH) which is a neutering programe aimed at controlling the population of stray animals.
In order to make Dogathon™ a must-attend fun event of the year for dog lovers, each year there will be a special theme carefully chosen by the committee to ensure a guaranteed fantastic event.
